Cost saving projects
Besides income generating projects, Macheo also tries to do projects that are environmentally friendly, cost saving or otherwise beneficial for Macheo.
Biogas toilets. All toilets on the Macheo plot are connected to a biogas installation. Using biogas for the stoves will save money on fuel. The residue will be used as fertiliser
Borehole. Thanks to sponsoring from Rotary Den Haag-Voorhout, Rotary Thika and Rotary International we have our own borehole on the terrain. This is a huge saving on our water bills. Water from the borehole is also of a better quality for our the crops we grow.
The following are projects we will be looking into in 2007.
Rental homes.
Another possible source of income might be to ‘let’ houses. We are currently starting to consider this. What is certain is that letting is a stable source of income, with a high investment but little maintenance.
Watercatchment. During the wet season we try to catch and retain as much as possible. This water is used for the vegetables and garden and saves power for the well.
