Macheo Children’s Home
Macheo Children’s Home
In september 2005 Macheo temporarily located itself in a rented house in Landless, Thika. Thika is about 45 kilometer north of Nairobi. Thika is a district capital and as such houses a lot of governmental institutions. This is very useful when arranging permits and for general safety.
Thika has a number of slums because of migration to the cities, many people come here looking for work or on their way to Nairobi.
There are around 2.0 million orphans in Kenya (U.N. 2005), in Kenya children die from preventable causes (like measles) every day. Most children have become needy because their parents have died from AIDS related illnesses, are too poor to take care of them or even abuse them or just leave them.
In december 2005 the first children found a home in Macheo. In february 2006 the number of children was raised to a temporary maximum of 13 children. Starting March 2007 we will be able to take care of 56 children. Macheo Children’s Home can be a home for children from all over Kenya, although so far most of the children have come from Thika.
See the “children” page for all children. Under ‘recent developments’ you can read what has been happening in Macheo Children’s Home lately. And if you look at ‘realized projects’ you’ll find some reports on finished projects.
