The children
On this page we would like to introduce the children who have found a new home in Macheo Children’s Home.
- Teresia Mwihaki (1995): Teresia was one of the first children who found a new home in Macheo. Teresia is the oldest girl and a very big help in taking care of the smaller children or with helping in the house.
- Bayo Ture (1997): Bayo joined Macheo on the same day. Bayo is a good boy, but sometimes he needs a bit more attention than other children.
- Yvonne Wambui Nyambura (1999): Yvonne is in class one. She is very cheerful and enjoys colouring.
- Tila John (1997). Tila joined MAcheo together with his smaller sister Mwikali. Tila has a lot of humour and is very acrobatic.
- Mwikali John (2001). Mwikali is very charming. Anybody who arrives in Macheo is a possible target for her charmes.
- Denis Mugendi (1997). Denis is a boy who is very interested in many things. He enjoys working on the computer very much.
- Dancun Karanja (2000). Dancun is the brother of Benjamin. He has been in Machoe since January 2006 and he has been cheerful and happy almost every day, sometimes he needs to be reminded that there is more in life than games.
- Benjamin Wahome (1997). Benjamin is a very hard worker. Any job is welvome, especially when it involves the animals. School work is not his biggest hobby.
- Harrison Macharia (1998). Harrison lives in Macheo together with his sister Zipporah and his brother Stephen. Harrison is very disciplined and well-mannered.
- Zipporah Wanjiru (2000). There is nothing that Zipporah enjoys more than playing outside and copy the boys in what they are doing, she sings and dances the whole day.
- Stephen Kariuki (2003). In the beginning Stephen was the youngest in Macheo, but now there are younger children. He likes the dogs very much. If you can't find him, you just have to look in the doghouse. He has already requested several times whether it was possible for him to sleep in the doghouse.
- Anthony Njegegu (1996). Anthony is a very good and ambitious boy. He works very hard for his school en likes to joke, sports and tell stories.
- John Gichumbi (2000). John is Anthony's smaller brother. In the beginning he was extremely focussed on Anthony, but he is making his own friends and doing his own things now.
- Sofia Wambui (1998). Sofia joined Macheo Children’s Home in January 2007. Her mother is alive, but unable to take care of her. Her mother visits Sofia whenever she can and they are still very close to each other, which Macheo tries to encourage as much as possible.
- Lilian Gachui (1997). Lilian joined Macheo on the 26th of January 2007. She is improving and becoming more certain of herself. The social worker, Grace, tries to spend much time with Lilian.
- Ann Wanjiku (2003). Ann is one of the youngest children, she is living in Macheo, together with her brother Joseph. She is a full orphan and was raised by her grandmother. The grandmother was sustaining herself, Ann and Joseph, by sorting garbage in the slums, while carrying Ann on her back. It took Ann a long time to get used to life in Macheo, but she is doing very well now. Everybody is very fond of her.
- Joseph Wainaina (1998). Joseph is in class 2. Just like his sister Ann he needed a long time to get fully settled, but he has been doing well lately. He is happy, cheerful and still very close to his small sister.
- John Ngige (1998). John Ngige is a full orphan and was raised by his visually handicapped brother. They were linving in the slums, but due to the handicap it was difficult for them to find enough work. John is happy, but needs to be reminded of the importance of school often.
- Stephen Irungu (2004). Stephen is the small brother of Monica, they came from the slums in Nairobi. He is a bit naughty, but in general he makes everybody smile. Usually the three smalles children - Ann Wanjiku, Stephen Irungu and Julius Mwangi - can be found together. If you don't see them, it usually means it's time to look for them, because they could be planning some misschief.
- Monica Muthoni (1999). Monica is the big sister of Stephen. It was very difficult to teach her to be clean, since most children from the slums are not very used to that, but she has improved very much.
