Recent developments
On this page we would like to keep you updated on what is happening at Macheo Children’s Home.
Main building
Thanks to the NCDO doubling of funds raised by Tumaini in various ways we have made a start with the most important building. The main building will consist of two dormitories, a dining room and the kitchen.
10 october 2006. A lot of the work has been done. A week ago the window frames were fitted, we still need to fit the windows and a lot of plastering and painting. The roof is already fitted on the girls dormitory. The main building will probably take another two weeks to finish.
Bore-hole
The bore-hole is sponsored by the Rotary club “Den Haag-Voorhout” with raised funds matched by Rotary International. Using our own bore-hole we save a lot on the costs of water and be less dependent on the irregular local water service. The quality of this water is also better for the farm, one of our income-generating projects. The bore-hole still has to be drilled.
Classroom
Thanks to sponsoring by “Hermes House Band” we can build a classroom. This room will be used for diverse activities such as: homework, music, plays, and singing and dancing.
Volunteers house
For 50% sponsored by “Steinweg Handelsveem” and 50% by “ABN-Amro bank”. 10 October 2006. The support construction for the roof is finished.
Biogas toilets
Sponsored with money raised by volunteers Roy van den Berg, Eveline van Dijk, Maaike Steltenpool and Randy Bernstein. The biogas part, which is underground, is finished. The surface constructions (the toilets themselves) will soon be finished.
Laundry and drying rooms
The children wash their own clothes, for this a Laundry room is needed. For drying during the rainy season a drying room is also required. This will be located between the laundry building and the wall.
Playground
For children a playt area is a must. The playground will consist of a climbing construction, slide, sand area etc. Some sponsors have already been found for the playground.
School-bus
For 50 children it would be easy to have our own bus to take the children to school in the morning and home in the afternoon. This is especially true in the new situation where we will be further away from the school than we are now.
Office
To manage Macheo, to receive visitors etc. we need an office. A large donation has already been given by Deloitte. Construction will start as soon as possible.
