The children’s home
This is the story behind the orphans of Thika, who primarily live in the enormous slums that are found in this city.
We offer the children the best care we can, focusing much attention on each individual’s talents and interests. Our assistants and the community workers provide a warm home for them.

These are the basic rules that we abide by. Despite all the care and all the attention for the individual child, we do realise that an orphanage is an emergency solution.
Macheo Outreach programmes
With our education programme, we ensure that children who attend schools in the slums of Thika receive a meal every day. Accordingly, we are seeing results improve.
The family empowerment programme aims at improving the situation for a child by improving the family situation. We assist parents to become better parents and support them to improve their economic situation through various activities.
Macheo works on a number of programmes which aim at improving the health of needy children. The health program is carried out in close cooperation with stichting KOP (Kiandutu Outreach Project) from the Netherlands.
Making it possible for young children and particulary girls to attend secondary school has many lasting effects. If girls are not going to school when they enter puberty they are likely to become pregnant at an early age.
Income generating projects
Since its establishment, we’ve been working hard to keep Macheo financially stable in Kenya. This has been rather challenging, but we’re well on the way.
The cow farm is a step towards an independent Macheo.
In the seven greenhouses we maintain, we grow all sorts of vegetables, which we then sell at the local market.
