Jamii Program
The Jamii (jamii is family in Kiswahili) Program has been started to help brothers and sisters of children in Macheo. In Macheo Children’s Home we take in children up to the age of ten. Older siblings will not be taken in, but we try to help them through the jamii-program. Thanks to sponsors we can send these children to the same private school as their brothers and sisters who live in Macheo. This way they will keep in touch even if not living together anymore.
Besides the school siblings and other relatives can always visit children in Macheo on the “visiting days” we have on the first saturday of every month.
At this time the following children are in the Jamii Program:
Margratta Wambui. Margratta is the older sister of Teresia and lives with a priest and his wife and daughter in Kiandutu. This is the same priest who initially took in Teresia. Margratta is in grade 8 and doing well in school. The en of year exam will determine the high school she’ll go to.
Giiro Ture. Giiro is Bayo’s brother and lives with his grandfather in Kiandutu. Giiro is in grade 6 and is the best of his year. Giiro is very tidy and disciplined and takes good care of his grandfather. Their grandfather is too old to work and also needs help, they are being supplied with weekly supplies of groceries and other needs.
Samuel Kamande. Kamande is the older brother of Harrison, Zipporah and Stephen. Kamande lives with a friendly woman, her husband and their two children in Kiandutu. Kamande is in grade 4, in Teresia’s group. He is doing well, but is having problems with English. He is a happy and joyful boy.
