In 2005 Marnix Huis in ’t Veld and Maureen Kromowirjo, both from the Netherlands left for Kenya as volunteers. The plan to start a new orphanage was quickly formed, mainly because of the overwhelming need. Many children need help because they are orphaned when their parents die of AIDS related illnesses and / or neglect. Most don't have anybody to take care of them.
Macheo Children’s Centre (MCC). This Kenyan ngo (non-governmental organization) is the formal legal body in Kenya. This NGO holds ownership of the land, the buildings and the car. This NGO is also the official employer of all staff and the children are also in legal care of the NGO. Macheo Children’s Centre consists of: Macheo Children’s Home, Macheo Outreach and the income generating projects. The NGO has a board of three Kenyan nationals. Marnix and Maureen are in charge of all day-to day activities of Macheo Children’s Centre.
Stichting Tumaini is a Dutch organization established by Marnix and Maureen to support Macheo Children’s Home. This way sponsor donations can be taken care of in a good manner. All donations to Tumaini will support Macheo Children’s Home/Centre.
