NGO Board MCC
Macheo Children’s Centre NGO
Motto: “to give the children of today a brighter future”
The NGO can be seen as a coordinating organization with two main branches: the “Help Projects” and the “Income generating Projects”. The Help projects are: Macheo Children’s Home and Macheo Outreach (Food Program, Jamii Program and Kiandutu 2015). The income generating projects are: Macheo Farm (vegetables, fruit, eggs, milk and meat), Macheo Safari and Duka Macheo. See the organogram for an overview.
In Kenya it is more common for the managers of an institution for which an NGO is established to have a seat at the board of an NGO. Since this is very uncommon in the Netherlands and may be seen as a cause for a conflict of interest for Marnix and Maureen, Marnix and Maureen have decided not to take a seat on the board of the NGO. In due time, when day-to-day management will be handed over to Kenyan nationals, Marnix and Maureen will take a seat on the board. The organization, coordination and running of all parts of Macheo is done by Marnix and Maureen and the staff.
The board of MCC NGO are:
- Richard Obonyo Okello (Chairman) (right)
- Joshua Patrick Oyieko (Secretary) (left)
- Simon Njuguna Karanja (Treasurer) (2nd from left)
Both Richard and Joshua are employed by the consultancy firm Panafcon, which is a local daughter of the Dutch DHV group and Simon is now retired, but used to be the manager of “SOS kinderdorpen” in Kenya.
